ZF (Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen AG) was established August 20 1915 for the purpose of manufacturing high quality gears and transmissions for airships and airplanes that were, up until that time, not available from any manufacturer. The experience gained in the design, construction and manufacture of these high performance transmissions was a valuable contribution for the later production of automobile gears and transmissions. ZF has continued to grow and invest in new technologies and in manufacturing facilities throughout the world. Today, ZF is one of the world leaders in transmission, steering and suspension technology, supplying high quality products to manufacturers in industries such as automotive, construction equipment, heavy truck, transit, marine and aviation.
